- En biochimie, on parle de fixation lorsqu'une molécule (d'oxygène, par exemple) se lie à une enzyme ou à un lymphocyte, par exemple.
- En histologie, la fixation d'un tissu est une méthode chimique permettant de conserver le tissu dans un état fixe (pour éviter qu'il ne se dégrade, ou que se poursuive une réaction biochimique), le plus proche possible de l'état physiologique.
- Dans le système visuel des animaux dotés d'une fovéa, la fixation est un type de mouvement oculaire.

En droit, on parle de fixation lorsque le prix de certaines marchandises (blé, par exemple) est régi par une réglementation ou une loi.
Démographie
En démographie, on parle de fixation lorsque des personnes, nomades ou expatriés par exemple, s'établissent à un endroit pour y demeurer.
Photographie
En photographie, on parle de fixation lorsque la lumière provenant de différents objets fait réagir chimiquement la pellicule au point de créer une « empreinte », l'image.
