Fight Fire With Fire
Fight Fire With Fire est la première piste du 2e album du groupe Metallica, Ride the Lightning sorti en 1984 et dure 4 min 45. La chanson commence par une guitare acoustique qui dure 30 secondes avant qu'un riff beaucoup plus violent et thrash métal ne surgisse. C'est la première chanson du groupe qui commence par une guitare acoustique avec Fade to black (également issue de l'album sauf que la guitare acoustique est présente pendant toute la chanson Fade to Black).
C'est aussi la seule chanson où James Hetfield chante dans de basses fréquences ; le reste de l'album est chanté dans une tonalité plus haute, à l'image de la majorité des chansons de Kill 'Em All. Le titre traduit « Combattre le feu par le feu » illustre bien la fin du monde en relation avec le comportement de l'homme (Œil pour œil, dent pour dent). À la fin de la chanson on peut entendre un bruit d'explosion ayant un rapport avec le thème de la chanson ainsi que James Hetfield qui crie Fight Fire With Fire plusieurs fois en même temps que Lars Ulrich qui s'énerve sur sa batterie double pédale.
Fight Fire With Fire est la seule chanson, avec Trapped Under Ice, qui contient la vitesse et la rapidité de chansons figurant sur Kill 'Em All (quoique Trapped Under Ice soit légèrement moins violent que Fight Fire With Fire) et est la seule chanson où James Hetfield hurle comme dans Kill 'Em All.
Elle a été interprétée en concert par le groupe en mai 2008 avec Flea, le bassiste des Red Hot Chili Peppers à la basse.
