L'européanisation renvoie au terme qui fut employé en sociologie comme synonyme d'occidentalisation pour désigner le rayonnement culturel des métropoles sur les cultures de leurs empires coloniaux.
Elle influença également les mœurs des populations indigènes concernées :
Ce terme connaît une seconde acception à l'intérieur des limites du continent européen depuis la mise en place par étapes de la Construction Européenne après la dernière guerre. Cette acception est relative à la conscience identitaire, plus qu'à une évolution culturelle.
