Épopée du roi Gesar
L'Épopée du roi Gesar est le poème épique le plus important du Tibet et d'une grande partie de l'Asie centrale. Il contiendrait plusieurs millions de vers, ce qui en fait l'œuvre littéraire la plus longue actuellement connue dans le monde. Composé il y a plus de huit siècles à partir de récits beaucoup plus anciens, il continue à être interprété de nos jours par plusieurs dizaines de bardes dans les régions de populations tibétaines et mongoles.
Étymologie
Le terme "Gesar" serait une transcription de terme, d'abord grec puis turc, "Kaisar" qui signifie "roi", "empereur", "souverrain". Il est équivalent au terme César/caesar en latin ou Tsar en russe. Si l'étymologie est exacte, ce titre ne lui aurait été attribué qu'après un certain nombre de conquêtes sur des territoires turcs et perses[1].
