Mouvement pour la démocratie sociale (Chypre)

Le Mouvement pour la démocratie sociale EDEK (en grec : Κινήμα Σοσιαλδημοκρατών ΕΔΕΚ — Kinima Sosialdimokraton EDEK, KS EDEK) est un parti politique chypriote, de type social-démocrate, fondé en 1970.

EDEK est le sigle d'Eniea Dimokratiki Enosis Kyprou (ou Kentrou) (en anglais United Democratic Union of Centre).

C'est un parti membre du Parti socialiste européen et de l'Internationale socialiste.

Son leader est M. Yiannakis Omirou.

À la Chambre des représentants (sur un total de 56 + 3 députés chypriotes grecs), le KS EDEK a obtenu 4 députés aux élections de 2001 : KS EDEK (Mouvement des Sociaux-démocrates) — (les noms sont présentés par ordre alphabétique à l’exception du président de chaque parti)

En 2006, il accroît sa représentation avec 5 députés (37 533 voix ; 8,9 % +2.4).

Historique

  • du 14/02/2000 au 29/06/2003 : Kinima Sosialdimokraton (KISOS, Mouvement des sociaux-démocrates)
  • 1973 : devient le Sosialistiko Komma Kyprou (SKK)
  • 1969 : création de l'Eniea Dimokratiki Enosis Kyprou (EDEK)

Le parti est fondé par le docteur Vassos Lyssaridis in 1969 sous le nom d'EDEK. Ses membres furent choisis dans le comité de rétablissement de la démocratie en Grèce et parmi les combattants du groupe de Lyssaridis durant les affrontements entre Chypriotes grecs et turcs de 1964. Ce parti a soutenu le président Makarios III et nombre de ses membres participèrent à la résistance armée du 15 juillet 1974 du coup d'État contre lui. Le président du mouvement des jeunes du parti (EDEN), Doros Loizou, fut abattu lors d'un attentat pour assassiner Lyssaridis lui-même en août 1974. De nombreux jeunes du parti en furent expulsés (trotskisme) entre 1979 et 1984 pour former Aristeri Pteryga (Aile gauche).
