Diamela Eltit est une écrivain et professeur d'espagnol chilienne, née en 1949 à Santiago (Chili).
Elle a obtenu la 2e licence en littérature et travaille à l’Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana. À partir de 1991 elle travaille aussi à l’Ambassade chilienne au Mexique. Dans ses livres, elle casse les modèles traditionnels de l’écriture à travers des ambiances sordides et des personnages marginaux en utilisant une narration marquée par un langage ambigu et des exaltations au corps de la femme blessée. Mariée au dirigeant socialiste historique Jorge Arrate, dont elle a soutenu la candidature à la présidentielle de 2009 sous l'égide de Junto Podemos, elle est un membre de la generación del 87, affectée par le coup d'Etat du 11 septembre 1973 contre Salvador Allende.
