Le Dharmaguptaka est l'une des dix-huit écoles anciennes du bouddhisme.

L'école serait apparue au Ier siècle ; elle eut un rôle prééminent en Asie centrale.

L'enseignement du dharmaguptaka se caractérise par la conception d'une essence du Bouddha, séparée et supérieure à la communauté monastique.

Son vinaya, traduit en chinois en 152 par Kuang Seng Kai, est toujours utilisé en Chine, maus aussi en Corée, au Viêt Nam.
