Denis Cosgrove, né en 1948 à Liverpool et décédé en 2008 à Los Angeles, était un éminent géographe spécialisé en géographie culturelle. Après une formation universitaire en géographie à Oxford, il commence son travail de recherche et d'enseignement au Royaume-Uni à Oxford et Londres, avant de devenir professeur de géographie à l'université de Californie à Los Angeles (UCLA). Tout au long de sa carrière Denis Cosgrove a produit une importante littérature se concentrant sur les concepts de paysages et des représentations.
