Bibliothèque Cotton
La bibliothèque Cotton, ou bibliothèque cottonienne, correspond au corps de livres et de manuscrits rassemblés par Robert Bruce Cotton. Elle comprend bon nombre de manuscrits en vieil et en moyen anglais, comme Beowulf, Sire Gauvain et le Chevalier vert ou Pearl.
Dévastée en partie lors d'un incendie en 1731, la collection constituée par Cotton est conservée à la British Library. La classification employée par Cotton, qui fait référence aux bustes d'empereurs romains placés dans sa bibliothèque, est encore employée aujourd'hui : ainsi, le manuscrit de Beowulf est-il également identifié par la référence Cotton Vitellius A.xv.
