La contagion est le fait de transmettre une maladie de façon directe ou indirecte.
La contagiosité (appelé « contage » au début du XXe siècle) étant le potentiel de transmission d'une maladie d’individu à individu.
Types de contagion
Il s'agit de :
- la contagion directe lorsque les germes sont transmis directement d'un sujet ou porteur de germes à un sujet sain par contact (mains, rapports sexuels, etc) ;
- la contagion indirecte lorsque les germes sont transmis par l'intermédiaire de supports ou vecteurs comme l'air, les poussières, les matières fécales, etc.
