L'éminent Docteur de la Loi Abba Shaül (אַבָּא שָׁאוּל) vécut durant la seconde moitié du premier siècle de l'ère courante. La mishna contient de nombreuses mentions de ses opinions et de son nom, qui fut également repris dans les notes biographiques du Grand Rabbin Salomon Ulmann figurant dans l'ouvrage Pirke Aboth (les Maximes des Pères).
