En théorie des probabilités et statistiques, le coefficient de variation est une mesure de la dispersion relative : il se calcule comme le rapport entre l'écart-type \ \sigma et la moyenne \ \mu .

Ce nombre est sans unité ; c'est une des raisons pour lesquelles il est parfois préféré à la variance pour traiter des grandeurs physiques.

Le RSD (relative standard deviation en anglais) est souvent défini comme la valeur absolue du coefficient de variation exprimée en pourcentage.
