Central business district (CBD) et downtown sont des termes anglais désignant le pôle commercial ou financier d'une ville américaine. Downtown est l'expression généralement utilisée en Amérique du Nord. Aux États-Unis, au Royaume-Uni, en Australie, à Hong Kong, en Irlande, dans certaines parties d'Afrique du Sud et en Nouvelle-Zélande, le terme Central Business District est utilisé par les géographes et les urbanistes, mais l'expression city centre (city center aux États-Unis) est beaucoup plus courant et spécifique, y compris dans certaines métropoles canadiennes. Ces quartiers sont parfois aussi désignés par le terme Financial District dans certaines villes.
