Le WiDi (contraction anglaise de Wireless Display), est une technologie de diffusion de flux vidéo sans fil utilisant le protocole Wi-Fi.
Présentation
Le Wireless Display, technologie propriétaire inventée par Intel, est destinée à permettre la transmission de flux vidéo, via le protocole Wi-Fi, entre un ordinateur "compatible" et un poste de télévision.
Matériel nécessaire
Pour fonctionner le WiDi nécessite les éléments suivants[1]:
- un ordinateur équipé d'un processeur Pentium ou Celeron (depuis la version 2.1.42.0)[2] ou de la génération Intel Arrandale (Core i3 ou i5 en 32 nm)
- une puce Wi-Fi de la dernière génération d'Intel (Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200, Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300, Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000)
- un boitier intégrant la technologie WiDi, connecté à la télévision et permettant de recevoir le flux vidéo pour l'afficher sur la télé
Limitations
Le WiDi impose les limitations suivantes:
- présence d'une carte WiFi de dernière génération
- incompatibilité avec le protocole de protection numérique HDCP
