Le waacking est une danse apparue dans les années 1970, s'inspirant de la musique funk et disco.
Apparue dans les discothèques gays de Los Angeles à la fin des années 1960, la danse servait à imiter l'attitude et le glamour des actrices de l'époque.
Avec l'arrivée du hip hop, le waacking est devenu plus funk. Après un désintérêt pour cette danse dans les années 1990, elle connaît un regain avec la mode des sons électros des années 2000.
La danse a aussi été appelée garbo.
