Singel (littéralement circonférence[1]) désigne, aux Pays-Bas, une voie d'eau qui fait le tour du centre historique d'une ville. Le terme est souvent confondu avec gracht, qui réfère plutôt aux canaux pénétrant au coeur de l'espace urbain[2].
Formant une coulée verte, le singel est un atout touristique indéniable. Il peut être bordé de portes, vestiges des anciens remparts de la cité. Ceux de Leyde et Utrecht, notamment, présentent un grand intérêt.
