Massacre de Souhane

Le plus grand des massacres de Souhane a eu lieu dans la petite ville de montagne Souhane (environ 25 km au sud d'Alger, entre Larbaâ et Tablat) durant la nuit du 20 au 21 août 1997. 64 personnes ont été tuées, et 15 femmes enlevées; la terreur résultant a provoqué un exode massif, portant la population de la ville vers le bas à 4000 hab. avant le massacre à seulement 103 hab. en 2002. À plus petite échelle, un autre massacre a eu lieu le 27 novembre, 1997 (18 hommes, 3 femmes, 4 enfants tués) et 2 mars 2000, lorsque quelque 10 personnes d'un seul ménage ont été tuées par la guérilla. Les massacres ont été imputés à des groupes islamistes comme le GIA.
