Le kayōkyoku (歌謡曲, kayōkyoku?, littéralement « musique de chant de paroles ») est un genre de musique pop japonaise d’inspiration occidentale qui est le prédécesseur et le fondement du J-pop moderne. The Japan Times décrit le kayōkyoku comme un « pop japonais standard » ou un « pop de l’ère Showa ».
À la différence de l’enka, le kayōkyoku ne se limite pas à des pièces sentimentales.
La liste d’artistes de kayōkyoku inclut : Kyu Sakamoto, The Peanuts, The Tigers, Momoe Yamaguchi, Candies, Pink Lady, Seiko Matsuda, The Checkers and Onyanko Club.
