The Japan Times est l'un des rares quotidiens indépendants en anglais du Japon. Ses principaux concurrents sont de fait les versions anglaises de grands quotidiens en japonais. The Japan Times fut fondé le 22 mars 1897. Il possède également une station de radio, InterFM, ainsi qu'une agence de voyage. Toshiaki Ogasawara est directeur du Japan Times depuis 1983. Sir Hugh Cortazzi contribue régulièrement à sa rédaction.
