Kenta Kobayashi (小林健太, Kobayashi Kenta^?), plus connu sous son nom de ring Kenta (écrit KENTA), est un catcheur japonais travaillant à la Pro Wrestling Noah où il est Global Honored Crown (GHC) Junior Heavyweight Champion.

Carrière

Pro Wrestling Noah

2000-2002

Kobayashi a pratiqué le baseball et le kickboxing. Il fait ses débuts dans le catch professionnel le 24 mai 2000 face à Naomichi Marufuji, de la All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) catchant dans la division junior heavyweight. Lors du clash à l'AJPW avec Misawa, il décide de le suivre dans sa nouvelle fédération, Pro Wrestling Noah. Il combat alors toujours dans la division junior heavyweight. Il se blesse lors de la première année et revient en juillet 2001 sous le nom de KENTA.

Kenta se lance alors dans la course au titre avec Naomichi Marufuji, afin de récupérer le titre GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship ; Kenta participe alors au tournoi. Il va alors jusqu'en finale face à Kotaro Suzuki et Tsuyoshi Kikuchi après avoir perdu face à Yoshinobu Kanemaru. Après sa prestation au tournoi, Kenta devient très populaire, et rejoint son mentor, Kenta Kobashi, dans sa faction, Burning.

2003-2005

Le 1^er mars 2003 sous le nom de Kenta Team avec Naomichi Marufuji, ils battent Makoto Hashi et Yoshinobu Kanemaru. En faisant équipe régulièrement, ils s'emparent du titre GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions dans un tournoi en battant le vétéran junior heavyweight Jushin Liger et Takehiro Murahama en final le 16 juillet. Il remporte ensuite le GHC Junior Heavyweight title le 30 novembre 2003, face à Takashi Sugiura.

Kenta combat plusieurs catcheurs de niveaux supérieur. Kenta en commençant par Juventud Guerrera. Mais perd face à des catcheurs comme Yoshinari Ogawa et Jun Akiyama. Le match final de cette série est face à Marufuji en octobre. Sa première grande confrontation est face à Suwa en mars 2005. Lors de ses match pour le titre Junior Heavyweight face à Yoshinobu Kanemaru le 18 juillet, KENTA n'a pas de chance. Il doit défendre son titre après deux mois de règne face à Suwa. Simultanément, Kenta fait équipe avec Katsuyori Shibata sous le nom de Takeover, dans la course au titre du GHC Tag Team Championship.

Le 5 mars 2006, Kenta fait face à son mentor Kenta Kobashi, et perd après un Burning Hammer. Le 4 juin il perd son Junior Heavyweight title face à Takashi Sugiura. Kent porte alors son attetion sur le GHC Heavyweight Championship, en s'occupant de Naomichi Marufuji.

Ring of Honor

KENTA fait ses débuts à la ROH en 2007 et s'y fait vite un nom, il ne remporte pas de titre à la ROH mais acquiert un nom aux US en plus de sa réputation au Japon, c'est un des chouchoux du public de la ROH et il est aujourd'hui un catcheur qui fait des matchs occasionnellement dans cette fédération, notamment dans les PPV, comme à ROH Supercard of Honor IV où il défendit son titre GHC Jr Heavyweight contre Davey Richards.
