Ferento (Ferentum) est un site étrusque situé près de Viterbe, sur la route Tiberina vers la vallée du Tibre dans le nord du Latium.

La cité de Frerento, Frentis date du VIIe siècle av. J.‑C. / VIe siècle av. J.‑C. s'est développée autour de l'agriculture et l'exploitation du fer et était rattachée à la Lucumonie de Velzna (Orvieto). Elle fut détruite à la fin du VIe siècle av. J.‑C..
Vers Ve siècle av. J.‑C.. les habitants dispersés originaires probablement de la ville étrusque d' Acquarossa détruite lors des guerres d'expansion de Tarquinia se réunirent sur le promontoire parallèle de Pianicara, donnant le jour à la petite ville romaine de Ferentum.
Après la Guerre Sociale (-91 - a. J.-C.) Ferentum resulte s'appeler Municipium.
