Fatima Meer est une militante anti-apartheid et écrivaine sud-africaine, universitaire et biographe de Nelson Mandela, née 12 août 1928 et décédée le 12 mars 2010 à Durban.
Biographie
Universitaire, écrivaine et éditrice dans les années 1960, proche de Nelson Mandela, elle a été détenue sans être jugée pour avoir tenté d'organiser un rassemblement avec le militant anti-apartheid Steve Biko.
Musulmane d'origine indienne, « sage » respectée de sa communauté, elle a notamment écrit une biographie sur celui qui allait devenir le premier président noir d'Afrique du Sud, intitulée « Plus haut que l'espoir » (1988).
Elle était mariée avec l'avocat et militant Ismail Meer (mort en 2000) et avait deux filles. Elle est décédée d'un attaque cérébrale à l'hôpital de Durban.
