Egyptian Hip Hop est un groupe de pop progressive originaire du Grand Manchester.

Biographie

Egyptian Hip Hop a été formé durant l'hiver 2008 par deux amis, Alexander Hewett et Louis Stevenson-Miller, qui ont ensuite recruté en tant que musiciens leurs amis Alexander Pierce et Nick Delap (qui avait précédemment joué dans un autre groupe avec Hewett) pour écrire des chansons avec eux. Peu après, ils ont commencé à jouer des petits concerts dans des cafés et bars de Manchester et le groupe attira l'attention de grands magazines de musiques tels que The Fly (magazine), Q et NME qui, fin 2009, publièrent une version démo de leur chanson « Rad Pitt » via une mixtape MP3 en ligne.

Grâce à cette promotion, le groupe a pu progresser afin de jouer dans de petits festivals. Plus tard, ils ont débuté leur première tournée avec le groupe Is Tropical. Egyptian Hip Hip ont finalement acquit une certaine notoriété et participèrent à de plus grands festivals en 2010 tels que le Midi Festival en France et le Reading and Leeds Festivals en Angleterre.

Suite à la sortie de leur premier single "Wild Human Child"/"Heavenly" produit par Sam Eastgate de Late of the Pier et l'enregistrement du clip de « Wild Human Child », le DJ Nick Grimshaw de la BBC Radio 1 a nommé « Wild Human Child » single de la semaine et ils ont enregistré une session live pour le show de Huw Stephens, jouant des chansons précédemment inconnues telles que « Valhalla Party » et « Moon Crooner ».

Finalement, le groupe a enregistré leur premier EP Some Reptiles Grew Wings au Club Ralph Studios de Londres avec le producteur Hudson Mohawke et le co-producteur Mark Ralph. L'EP est sorti en septembre et inclus deux nouvelles chansons « Middle Name Period » et « Native », aux côtés d'une version ré-enregistrée de « Rad Pitt » et de l'enregistrement officiel de « Moon Crooner ».
