La convention Cartoonist est une convention de Japanimation qui s'est tenue entre 1993 et 2003 à Toulon et Paris.
C'est à cette prestigieuse convention que sont apparus les premiers cosplays en France. Les fans de manga pouvaient enfin acheter des produits dérivés de leurs séries préférées avec facilité. C'est notamment grâce à cette convention que se sont rencontrées les stars de la culture geeks de maintenant, qui aujourd'hui, ont pu réaliser tous leurs projets de webserie ou de chaine TV, notamment les fondateurs de la série Noob et funglisoft studio (Fabien Fournier, Rodolphe Toucas, Julien Guellerin, …), les fondateurs de la chaine Nolife (télévision) (Alex Pilot, Sébastien Ruchet, Davy Mourier, …), les Guardians, avec la Flander's Company (Frédéric Hosteing, Ruddy Pomarede, …), et bien d'autres.
Pour beaucoup, cette convention a été un exemple à suivre. Elle a su prouver que beaucoup de personnes s'intéressaient à la pop culture geek et japonaise.
