Le Canal Istanbul (ou Canal d'Istanbul) est un projet de canal présenté par le premier ministre turc, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, en avril 2011. Le projet consiste en la construction d'un nouveau canal entre la mer Noire et la mer de Marmara, avec comme objectif le désengorgement du Bosphore. Le canal devrait mesurer entre 45 et 50 kilomètres de long, pour une largeur de 150 mètres et une profondeur de 25 mètres. Selon le premier ministre turc, il s'agirait d'un projet d'une ampleur telle qu'il pourrait éclipser le canal de Panama et le canal de Suez.
Présentation
Ce canal se situerait sur la rive européenne d'Istambul. Sa longueur approcherait 50 km de long, pour une profondeur de 25 mètres et une largeur de 150 mètres. Il permettrait le passage quotidien d'un grand nombre de navires de fort tonnage[1].
