L’Australian Imperial Force (AIF) est le nom donné à toutes les forces armées de bénévoles australiens envoyés pour combattre outre-mer pendant la Première et la Seconde Guerres mondiales.
Suite à la création de la Fédération australienne en 1901, l'Australie a créé une petite armée régulière et une plus grande composante de réservistes de la Force militaire des citoyens (CMF). La CMF ne pouvait pas être déployée à l'étranger, d'où la formation des AIF respectivement en 1914 et 1939 pour fournir des troupes pour le service outre-mer.
Pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, l'Australian Flying Corps, le précurseur de la Royal Australian Air Force, faisait partie de la 1re AIF.
Des membres de la 1e AIF ont servi lors de l'intervention alliée dans la guerre civile russe de 1917 à 1920 et de nombreux mémoriaux australiens sont érigés en reconnaissance de ces services.
L'armée régulière australienne moderne a été fondée en 1947 et ses soldats peuvent être déployés partout dans le monde. Ils ont servi en Corée, Malaisie, Indonésie, Vietnam, golfe Persique, diverses nations du Pacifique, Afghanistan et Irak.
