Andrew Archibald Paton (1811-1874), est un diplomate orientaliste anglais ; consul à Raguse dans la Bocca di Cattaro, il popularisa ses voyages en Égypte, en Syrie, et dans les balkans et écrivit quelques romans à succès. Il rencontra, lors de ses voyages, le seigneur Arneri de Korčula, rendit un vibrant hommage au passé de ces peuples, notamment aux raguséen, et particulièrement au mathématicien Marino Ghetaldi. Enfin, il reste de lui un essai d'analyse original sur la vie et sur l'œuvre de Stendhal et quelques lettres de sa correspondance avec cet autre grand voyayeur, sir Austen Henry Layard.
