Banu Qays est le nom d'une ancienne tribu arabe.
Histoire
Les Banu Qays font partie des "Arabes du nord" (muta 'arriba), ils auraient eu pour ancêtre Adnan, descendant d'Ismaël, fils d'Abraham. À l'époque préislamique, ce groupe était constitué de beaucoup de tribus, comme les Banu Salim, les Ghatafân, les Thaqif, les Amir et les Abs. Ils étaient proches également des Tamim et des Taghlib qui vivaient déjà en Mésopotamie. Les Qays affirment avoir eu comme ancêtre Mudar, dont Qays Ilan aurait été le fils.
Les Qays ont participé aux conquêtes musulmanes, et se sont érigés en confédération à l'époque des Omeyyades.
