Il s'agit du processus de création des documents TeX : on obtient ce qu’on demande, un texte bien présenté avec les détails demandés.
L'expression s’inspire du WYSIWYG : ce que vous voyez est ce que vous obtenez, la difficulté étant d’afficher ce qu’on veut. Dans le YAFIYGI, il est facile d’obtenir ce qu’on veut, mais on peut difficilement le voir avant de l’imprimer.
