« Yahweh » ou « Yahvé » est une transcription longtemps utilisée par l'Église catholique romaine, et désormais considérée comme erronée[réf. nécessaire], obtenue en intercalant les deux voyelles a et e pour donner une forme prononçable aux quatre consonnes du tétragramme YHWH, nom du Dieu des Hébreux dans l'Ancien Testament.

Au Moyen Âge, des auteurs lui ont préféré « Jéhovah »[réf. nécessaire], obtenu en ajoutant les trois voyelles e, o et a.

Le judaïsme n'a jamais transcrit ni prononcé le Nom divin, qui est ineffable par nature. Seul le grand prêtre était réputé en connaître le secret, avant la destruction du Temple de Jérusalem.
