La United States Football League (ou USFL) était une association d'équipes professionnelles de football américain qui opéra entre 1983 et 1985. Contrairement à la NFL qui joue ses rencontres durant l'automne, l'USFL disputait ses matches au printemps, de mars à juillet. L'USFL débuta en attirant à elle quelques uns des meilleurs joueurs universitaires comme Brian Sipe, Herschel Walker, Doug Flutie, Mike Rozier, Reggie White, Jim Kelly et Steve Young.
L'USFL cesse ses activités sportives en 1985 mais poursuit sur un terrain judiciaire en intentant un procès à la NFL en s'appuyant sur la loi anti trust. Le juge accorda à l'USFL 1 dollar de dommage... L'USFL restera à jamais dans l'histoire comme la "1 dollar league".
