Un cover band est un groupe spécialisé dans les reprises de chansons célèbres. Le terme cover band vient de l'anglais est signifie littéralement groupe de reprise.
Un cover band jouent des chansons écrites et enregistrées par d'autres artistes, généralement des chansons très populaires. Il existe une grande variété de style pour les cover bands :
- groupe reprenant exclusivement la musique d'un groupe particulier, ces derniers sont appelés en anglais tribute band
- groupe reprenant les titres d'une décennie particulière
- groupe mélangeant une variété de styles, d'artistes, de genres ou encore de décennies
- groupe adaptant la chanson dans un autre genre ou style que celui de la composition originale (par exemple une version jazz d'une chanson rock).
