Timmins
Timmins, est une ville dans le Nord-Est de l'Ontario, au Canada. Sa population était de 43 686 habitants lors du recensement de 2001.
La région se développe à partir de 1900, avec le début de l'exploration minière. On parle alors de South Porcupine. Un grand feu de forêts ravage la région en 1911. L'exploration minière est relancée par Noah Timmins qui s'établit dans la région et donne son nom à la future ville, constituée en 1912. L'industrie forestière viendra diversifier l'économie par la suite. La ville compte un nombre important de Franco-Ontariens (plus de 16 500 ou 40%).
L'incendie de Porcupine
Un des plus gros incendies à avoir jamais ravagé l'Ontario prit naissance à Porcupine, un village dépendant de la ville de Timmins, en 1911. Le feu se déclara le 11 juillet 1911 et causa la mort d'environ 70 personnes[1].
