The Passenger est un film dramatique américain réalisé par Nick Gomez avec Elijah Wood, dont la sortie est prévue en 2010. Eric Schmid s'occupera du scénario alors que Ted Hope le produira. Le budget annoncé s'élève à 7 000 000 $.
Ce film est en fait l'adaptation de la vie d'Iggy Pop[1], un chanteur, compositeur et acteur américain né le 21 avril 1947 dans le Michigan. Il se concentrera sur la genèse des The Stooges, le groupe dans lequel il fut chanteur[2]. Le titre est tiré du tube de 1982 interprété par Iggy Pop[3].
The Passenger marque une nouvelle fois combien les icônes du Rock 'n' roll attirent les cinéastes. Après Walk the Line avec Joaquin Phoenix, Last Days avec Michael Pitt, I'm Not There avec Christian Bale et Control, The Passenger s'inscrit dans la même lignée. Et de nouveaux films sont déjà annoncés : une adaptation de la vie de Keith Moon (qui serait interprété par Mike Myers) est prévue ainsi qu'une de la vie de Janis Joplin (avec Renée Zellweger).
Iggy Pop a déclaré aimé le script, mais a refusé de participer au tournage. Voici ce qu'il a dit :
« Le script n'était pas du foie haché … c'était une œuvre d'art. Mais subjectivement, je ne voulais pas m'impliquer dedans. Le producteur et le scénariste m'ont envoyé une lettre décente me demandant de leur dire si je ne voulais pas qu'ils continuent leur projet … mais je n'ai rien envoyé. »
Pop a également parlé d'Elijah Wood comme d'un « acteur posé et talentueux[4] ».
