Le Passeur (titre original : The Giver) est un roman de Lois Lowry paru en 1993.
Synopsis
L'histoire se déroule dans une société futuriste présentée comme utopique, où les individus sont réglés pour ne plus ressentir d'émotions et se comporter de façon préétablie. Jonas, un jeune garçon vivant avec ses parents dans la "cellule familiale" qui lui a été attribuée, s'apprête à atteindre l'âge de 12 ans, où il reçoit un métier arbitraire. Il devient dépositaire de la mémoire, et peu à peu se questionne de plus en plus sur ce qu'il perçoit autour de lui. Il est peu à peu initié par le dépositaire précédant, le « passeur », qui lui transmet les souvenirs et les mémoires de toute l'histoire du monde que sa communauté a rejetés en devenant neutre. Réussira-t-il à supporter ce fardeau ?

Le Passeur a reçu la Newbery Medal 1994.
