Promotion et critiques

The Books fait partie des groupes qui bénéficièrent d'un éclairage manifeste de la part du site de critique Pitchfork. Même s'il est difficile de cibler précisément ce type d'influence, il est indéniable que The Books en a profité.

Le premier album, Thought for Food, a reçu la note de 9,0/10[1], le second, The Lemon of Pink, 8,4/10[2]. Le troisième, Lost and Safe a reçu la note de 7,0/10[3]. Music for a French Elevator and Other Short Format Oddities by the Books a reçu la note de 7,2/10[4]. Leur dernier album en date, The Way Out a lui reçu la note de 7,7/10[5].
