Un spray aérosol est un dispositif mécanique permettant de vaporiser un liquide en fines gouttelettes.
Principe
En général, les sprays aérosol sont constitués de boîtes métalliques contenant le liquide à vaporiser ainsi qu'un gaz aérosol sous pression. Le liquide est expulsé par la pression du gaz.
Pendant longtemps, on a utilisé des gaz chlorofluorocarbure (CFC) comme propulseurs. Ces gaz ont été accusés de participer activement à la destruction de la couche d'ozone et leur usage a été sérieusement règlementé au niveau mondial par le protocole de Montréal en 1987.
Depuis cette période on utilise très souvent du butane comme gaz propulseur.
