South African Astronomical Observatory

Le South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) est un observatoire astronomique professionnel sudafricain (32°22′46″S 20°48′38.5″E / -32.37944, 20.810694). Il est situé dans la province du Cap-du-Nord, environ 300 km au nord de la ville du Cap, où se situent les quartiers généraux de l'observatoire. L'observatoire est opéré par la National Research Foundation of South Africa. Il comporte plusieurs télescopes de petite taille principalement utilisés en photométrie, un télescope de 1,9 m de diamètre, et le nouveau télescope de 11 m, copie améliorée du télescope Hobby-Eberly, appelé Southern African Large Telescope (SALT).
