Shophar
Le schofar (chofar ou encore shophar) est un instrument de musique à vent en usage dans le rituel israëlite depuis l'Antiquité. Il a notamment été utilisé par les Hébreux contre les murailles de Jéricho lors de la conquête du pays de Canaan par Josué.
Le chofar est utilisé, dans la tradition juive, lors des fêtes de Rosh Hashana et de Yom Kippour, et le jour de Yom Haatsmaout (indépendance de l'Etat d'Israël). Cet instrument, le seul que les juifs aient conservé depuis l'Antiquité, est destiné à annoncer la fin du jeûne, le jour du Yom Kippour, dans chaque synagogue au son d'une grande [terou'a],suite de sons très courts saccadés formant fanfare longue et suivie selon le souffle ou la technique du sonneur.
On le classe dans les cornes puisqu'il est fabriqué avec une corne de bélier,effectivement puisque dans la lexicologie juive קרן <qerene> signifie par exemple en français corne, symbole du bélier sacrifié par Abraham à la place de son fils Isaac.
Le schofar est une sorte de cornet fait d'une corne de bélier (et jamais d'une autre matière en rappelant la forme ni d'une corne de taureau C.Q.F.D. שלמה בן יצחק יום שני של פ' וזאות הברנה ~התשס"ח). Son extrémité étroite sert d'embouchure.
