Le Scottish Dance Theatre est l'une des troupes de danse contemporaine les plus actives du Royaume-Uni.
Histoire de la compagnie
Le SDT fut fondé en 1986 sur une initiative de la ville de Dundee ; elle est basée, depuis sa fondation, au Dundee Repertory Theatre de cette même ville. C'est en 1991 que la compagnie, alors appelée Dundee Rep Dance Company, a remporté le Digital Award for Dance, sa première récompense.
La directrice artistique, Janet Smith, arrivée en juin 1997, est également la principale chorégraphe des créations de la troupe. Le répertoire du Scottish Dance Theatre inclut également des créations de chorégraphes de renommée internationale ainsi que des jeunes talents.
Le Scottish Dance Theatre effectue régulièrement des tournées à travers le Royaume-Uni ainsi que dans le reste de l'Europe.
