L'Astor Place est un block du sud de Manhattan, à New York qui est antérieur à l'instauration du plan hippodamien de l'île. Il a été baptisé en la mémoire de John Jacob Astor, arrivé à New York en 1783 et qui devint en l'espace de quelques années l'homme le plus riche du pays. Il mourut à l'âge de soixante-quinze ans en 1848, et donna son nom à la rue quelques années après.
