Rosie Ruiz (née en 1953) est une marathonienne ayant triché au marathon de New York et au 84e Marathon de Boston en 1980.
La course
Lors de la course à New York, elle a emprunté le métro car elle était à bout de forces au bout de 30' et voulait quand même impressionner son entourage. Elle est ensuite retournée discrètement à travers la foule dans la course pour arriver à la ligne d'arrivée avec un temps de 2:56, ce qui aurait été un record pour une femme participant à ce marathon[1]. Elle a ensuite participé au marathon de Boston où, gràce à sa victoire, elle fut directement inscrite. N'étant toujours pas une grande sportive, elle imagina un nouveau stratagème: elle loge dans un hôtel qui se situe près de la ligne d'arrivée et au moment propice, elle se glisse à travers la foule après s'être versée de l'eau sur la tête pour faire croire qu'elle avait transpiré. Le problème c'est qu'elle ne se rend pas compte que le peloton est derrière elle. Ainsi, elle fini première en 2h31': elle explose tous les reccords. Interrogée ensuite par les journalistes, elle montre des incohérences dans son récit et est démasquée. Par la suite, elle change de nom et s'installe en Floride. La victoire a été attribuée à la canadienne Jacqueline Gareau.
