Achrafieh

Achrafieh (الاشرفية) est un quartier chrétien de Beyrouth (capitale du Liban). Il se trouve dans l'est de la ville. La zone d'Achrafieh s'étend de Gemayze, à Tabaris du côté de la Place des Martyrs, et vers les alentours de l'Hôpital Hôtel-Dieu de France. Des rues importantes tels que : la Montée Sursock, Gémayzé, le boulevard Fouad Chéhab, la rue Sassine, la Rue du Liban, Nasrah Nazareth sont à l'origine de l'appellation d'Ashrafieh : quartier chic du Liban.

Au XIXe siècle, il était surtout composé de fermes tenues par quelques familles. Le quartier Sursock était de tout temps le quartier le plus riche de Achrafieh. Comprenant les villas et châteaux de la famille Sursock, ce quartier donna à Ashrafieh sa facture richissime. Pendant la Guerre du Liban, Achrafieh devient la base des milices chrétiennes. Aujourd'hui, le quartier est une zone commerciale, résidentielle, artistique et culturelle importante, il est l'un des plus riches de Beyrouth avec Verdun. Il y a 2 ans[Quand ?], le journaliste Samir Kassir est tué lors d'un attentat à Achrafieh, à quelques mètres de l'ABC, le plus grand centre commercial de Beyrouth.
