Le Portrait d'Adele Bloch-Bauer I est une peinture de Gustav Klimt qui a été achetée pour $135 millions le 18 juin 2006 lors d'une vente privée par le milliardaire Ronald Lauder.
Description
Klimt a mis trois ans pour accomplir cette peinture. Formant un carré de 138 centimètres de coté, elle est peinte sur une toile avec de la peinture à l'huile ainsi que de l'or et de l'argent qui mettent en valeur l'ornement raffiné et complexe comme on le retrouve dans l'art nouveau allemand, le Jugendstil. Klimt était un membre de la sécession viennoise, un groupe d'artistes qui a rompu avec la peinture traditionnelle. Le tableau a été peint à Vienne et commandé par Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer, un riche industriel qui, ayant fait fortune dans l'industrie du sucre, est devenu un mécène pour de nombreux artistes et notamment Gustav Klimt qu'il a soutenu. Adele Bloch-Bauer est le seul modèle que Klimt a peint deux fois puisqu'il existe un second tableau la représentant, Adele Bloch-Bauer II, réalisé en 1912.
