- 1975 : création des Portland Timbers qui participent alors au défunt championnat de la NASL (la grande ligue nord-américaine)
- 1982 : dissolution de l'équipe
- 2001 : les Timbers sont recréés et sont engagés en championnat A-League (le précédent nom de la 1re division de la USL).
- 2011 : Entrée dans le championnat MLS
