Paul Strand a commencé la photographie à New York dans les années 1910. Au début des années 1920, ll a été reconnu à la fois pour ses peintures et pour ses photographies.
Il a voyagé au Mexique dans les années 1920-1930. Dans les années 1960, il a photographié l'Afrique de l'Ouest et du Nord.
