New York State Theater

Le New York City Ballet est une compagnie de danse classique et de danse moderne fondée en 1948 par les chorégraphes George Balanchine et Lincoln Kirstein. La compagnie est issue d'une troupe plus ancienne, le Ballet Society qui a changé de nom lorsqu'elle est devenue compagnie résidente du New York City Center for Music and Drama. Le nom usuel est City Ballet (ou NYCB).

De nombreux danseurs ont appartenu à cette compagnie : Jacques d'Amboise, Maria Tallchief, Diana Adams, Edward Villella, Melissa Hayden, Jillana, Gelsey Kirkland, Conrad Ludlow, Suzanne Farrell, Allegra Kent, Tanaquil LeClerq, Darci Kistler, Peter Martins (qui a succédé à Balanchine comme directeur artistique) et Mikhaïl Barychnikov.
