Mtarfa est une petite ville du nord de Malte, située près de Rabat et de Mdina. Aire résidentielle moderne, Mtarfa existait déjà du temps de l'Empire romain, comme en témoignent des inscriptions attribuées au Temple de Prospérine retrouvées sur les lieux. Des casernes militaires s'y trouvent depuis 1890; un hôpital naval fut construit au cours de la Première Guerre mondiale. Elle est aujourd'hui devenue une école secondaire publique, nommée Sir Temi Zammit. Une chapelle dédiée à St-Oswald y fut construite par les britanniques au cours de leur occupation de l'île. La ville possède en outre une horloge bien connue, construite en 1895.
