Meave Leakey, née Meave Epps le 28 juillet 1942 à Londres, est une paléoanthropologue contemporaine spécialisée dans les anciens hominidés d'Afrique de l'Est.
Découverte du Kenyanthrope
L'équipe de recherche de M. Leakey a découvert en 1998 un ensemble de fossiles attribués à un nouveau genre et une nouvelle espèce d'hominidé, sur la rive ouest du lac Turkana au Kenya. Le crâne et le fragment de mandibule en question ont servi à définir Kenyanthropus platyops, « l'homme du Kenya à face plate ».
Famille
Meave Leakey est l'épouse de Richard Leakey, célèbre paléoanthropologue et homme politique kenyan. Ils ont deux enfants, Louise née en 1972 et Samira née en 1974. Louise Leakey poursuit la tradition familiale en conduisant des recherches paléoanthropologiques.
