Margaret Carpenter, née Margaret Sarah Geddes en 1793 et décédée en 1872, est un peintre britannique très célèbre en son temps, héritière de Thomas Lawrence. Son époux, William Hookham Carpenter, était le fils d'un libraire de Bond Street. Elle a eu huit enfants, dont trois sont morts en bas-âge. On crédite Margaret Carpenter d'environ mille peintures. Elle a principalement peint les célébrités de son temps. Elle était l'amie de Richard Parkes Bonington.
